The session is open to all riders in Toronto of all levels, the route changes each week as we cater to the ride ability of the collective group.

Hey Apathy! Sign and New LL Rider

If you have passed by or stopped into the Gallery at 74 Oxford, chances are you have seen the ongoing design changes to the front of the building. While in need of a solid sign we reached out to collaborative partner and friend Mike Parsons / Hey Apathy! to apply his signature style and it looks great. Thanks Mike.

It was also good to have Terron Wood, a friend of Longboard Living in from New York and he decided to pick up a custom painted deck...when in rome. We set him up with the last painted board from the Jimmy Chiale 2010 collection, Adam Colton Paris 180 Trucks and Bennett Aligator wheels.

Thanks Mike and Terron for stopping by!

Longboarding

If you are not riding or carrying a longboard, I'll ask you if you forgot it at home.
If you say you don't have one, i'll say yet.

It's something you should have with you when you leave in the morning, prepared for unexpected dashes down the block or the 15 minute break you can cruise through the park before going back to work or class. Its the moments inbetween work and play that longboarding connects. You can catch a wave when the light turns red and just go, both lanes, just cruising.

After a busy week and a successful Black Forest Cake show with WAXHEAD on Friday, some of the Longboard Living family locked down a few laps at the park before carrying on with the evening. Here are some photos of BOZ, Flavia and Ryan.

The Blue Banana Market

The Blue Banana Market in Kensington Market is now carrying Longboard Living boards from our custom collection. If you have not been to the BBM it could be considered a Bloomingdales for Canadian artists and all funky unique products.

Longboard Living is making a large effort to reach out to other independent shops around Toronto in an effort to expand and get more boards out to more people.

if you are interested in having complete, custom painted longboards by Longboard Livingin your store, email info@longboardliving.com

Custom Longboard - Guru Tribute

Gunnar made a visit to the shop 1 week ago with a shortboard, clearly looking for something more. He had speed, carve, cruise and slide in mind. After browsing the selection of painted decks and blanks we decided on a blank Ambitious Boards drop deck that is locally built in Toronto. He already had an idea for a custom deck in mind - something to remember the life of hip hop artists Guru who recently passed away. The deck art was done by Amelia - a fromer member of Funktion Gallery - and includeds the Gangstarr logo, Gurus birth and death dates as well as the quotes: "Above the clouds, above the crowds". The deck was set up with a new brand of trucks called Sabre available at 74 Oxford and Orangatang 4President wheels. A great set up for a first longboard that will allow Downhill and Freeriding.

Enjoy the new set-up Gunnar.

LACE

Lady Artist Collective & Exhibition

(Pedestrian) Sunday, May 30th will be the launch of a new 14 Custom Painted Complete Collection from Longboard Living and a fine group of female artists from Toronto. The event will begin at 3:00pm at the Longboard Living Gallery - 74 Oxford in Kensington market. The boards have been coming in the door to be gripped and set, they look great - a whole new direction for the LL collection.

The event was inspired by a large demand from female artists to paint decks in April. I had also read a blurb in Cooler Magazine - an Austrailian board sports mag for women - about a skateboard art project in London that had some female artists. We thought it would be fun to take in the next step and have only females paint on boards you can actually ride.

Hope to see you at the L.A.C.E. show Sunday, May 30th at 3pm

Thanks to BOZ for the event flyer.

Pardon Le Dopeness - PLD cockatoo graffiti

Pardon Le Dopeness...nuff said.

It's like a new housewarming gift - from the hood. Thanks to Matt Adam and the PLD crew for dropping off this ill piece on the front steps of 74 Oxford when we opened the shop in March.

A lot of new projects in the works with PLD x Longboard Living - coming late summer 2010.

When deciding to take artistic photos of the Board Meeting, it was hard to imagine a showcase of the photos at an all longboard art gallery / community hub years later in 2010. Jonathan Nuss is continuing to capture the Toronto longboard scene while attending the new school skate night - Side Street Surfing - every Wednesday night. Jon has been taking and printing photos each week and is filling up actual photo album at the gallery. He recently began shooting videos of the sessions:

Thanks Jon for being part of the Toronto longboard community and the Longboard Living Side Street Surfers !

Review from BM Photo Exhibition Blogged

Longboard Living sends a thank you to Juanito Aguil for stopping by the Board Meeting Photos Exhibition to take some photos and blog the event. Here is what he had to say at http://1nitoaguildaily.com/tagged/Longboarding

Last week I went to check and hang out at the LongBoard Living Gallery on 74 oxford (DT Toronto) A very chilled out and inspiring event put together by Ryan Rubin. The new spot is home to Toronto’s own Longboard Living company, who are stoked to expand the longboarding scene to the streets of T dot, so make sure to watch out for them on the way up.
The Gallery displayed photos from all the past Toronto Board Meeting Events by Local Lifestyle and resident board meeting photographer Jonathan Nuss along with various boards and art pieces on display.
I was really stoked to see the Board Meeting pictures which were nicely displayed in B&W and after checking out the new board designs- I definitely need to get myself a new pine. To bad it rained that day too, cause a board session would have been awesome.
So if you want to know more about long boarding or your looking to get yourself a new ride check out LongBoard Living, I guarantee they know what’s up.

The photos will be in stock at 74 Oxford

Upcoming events at 74 Oxford:
May 21st @ 7pm: WAXHEAD and Friends installation and art show
May 30th @ 3pm: L.A.C.E - Lady Artist Collection & Exhibition

See you there!

BOZ Boards Prototype

Here is a lot of new designs going on in the Longboard world these days.

BOZ Boards has been off the radar for a while but I have been watching his work closely in Toronto. Did you know that almost every BOZ board is created from a new mold? Rarely are 2 designs a like, when they are the graphic art is completely original. As BOZ has a fine collection of foam molds, going into production is now on the radar, the only question is which designs will be reproduced? Have a look at a new signature board he is prototyping for BOZ NYC Rider Nate Cohen:

The board features a 1" drop and double kick tail, deep pockets for sliding and locking in for speed.

Finished with carbon fiber.

BOZ Boards are available through Longboard Living and are in stock at 74 Oxford

www.bozboards.com is being updated and uploaded in the near future.

Copper Longboard

The next level of design is where we are headed when curating the Longboard Living collection. The most recent piece to roll through the door is a custom copper deck by Gary Capon, a sculpture in Toronto. He designed and cut out copper pieces for each end of the board, nose and tail guards, a cross section bar on top of the deck and used copper leaf on the eye ball design. It is a truly amazing show piece and we are thrilled to add this new element to the Longboard Living Collection. We will be working with Gary to have copper cut outs available on demand for future orders.

The Board Meeting Photo Exhibition

The rain did not effect the packed house at 74 Oxford for the Board Meeting Photo Exhibition. The weather was a far worse than the rain we experienced at the actual 2008 Board Meeting but much the same everyone had a great time. The Escarpment Surfers crew was in the house, as well as Board Meeting veterans and a good showing from the OLF and Longboard Living Family. Jonathan Nuss created a great show commemorating what has become a stand out memory for the Toronto longboard community. With a variety of print material including photobooks and prints from 8x10 up. The print lineup will continue to expand to T-Shirts and other related product in honor of the event and to help promote this years board meeting with will take place on the second Saturday of September.

Congrats BOZ for passing on the infamous Le Tigre drop deck inlaid with Cherry and Bossy Wood veneers.

Photo books are $40
Prints start at $40 and go up to $180

Come by the gallery until May 14th to check out the exhibition.

Spreading the stoke,

Longboard Living
