March at LL

March has been a busy month in Longboard Living land.

It started strong with the launch of our gallery at 74 Oxford in Kensington Market. The event brought a packed house, mixed crowed and a ton of stoke as we welcomed LL to its new home and headquarters. The gallery will act as a showroom for our hand-painted completes and supply some gear to the Toronto longboard community.

The gallery has brought some new business and new riders to the company and it is awesome to watch the numbers grow as Push Culture spreads through Toronto. Aside from new riders, the artist roster has been growing and we are about to begin designing the Summer 2010 collection with 30 blanks being delivered to a handful of new artists and design teams. LL has been approached by a handful of new artists and independent board builders presenting collaborations to us. We will soon carry a variety of locally built longboards including Downhill, Freeride, Dancers, Cruisers and minis.

In the news, LL has been interviewed and blogged by a couple of longboard blogs, Skate Slate and the Brooklyn Barbarosa. We worked closely with Matt Livingston from Skate Slate and were able to share our message with the Canadian longboard readers.

Justin Hayes writes for the Brooklyn Barbarosa - I met with Justin at the Broadway Bomb in 2008 and we have kept in touch since then. It was a pleasure doing the interview with him - his site has been getting over 6000 hits / day this season.

Push Culture - started in New York by the Bustin Crew is spreading to Toronto. We have begun meeting every Wednesday at 7pm and skate from the gallery through town. Lots of new routes to discover and we are anticipating a lot of new riders to join us as we keep the Push Culture tradition alive.

As the month of March comes to a close, the season will officially begin. The next 6 months will be very exciting for Toronto and East Coast longboarding.

Thanks for following Longboard Living. Our mission remains to spread stoke, provide hand-painted custom longboards and expand the rider market in Toronto. To inquire about a custom, email longboardliving@gmail.com.

Product Launch Party

Ambitous Boards has teamed up with the Longboard Living Gallery to be their official supplier. We are stoked to be working closely with Kevin Le Frank from Ambitious who approached us when the gallery opened in March to introduce his line of Roarockit built decks. It is great to see the riders building boards for their own terrain and style. Ambitious will be launching a W-Concave freeride board and a Downhill Drop deck as well as their own line of engineered bearings.

The launch will be followed by a Garage Skate Session in Kensington to demo the decks.

LL @ The Roarockit Swap Meet

Longboard Living was posted up at this years Roarockit Swap Meet. The event brought out close to 200 stoked out enthusiasts including many of Ontario's finest independent custom builders. Our current collaborative partner 'Napes' was displaying some of his custom carbon drop decks. I got the word that special ordered carbon for our collaboration deck came in and will go into production this week. GFT also let me know that he has started designing a 1 off double kingpin DH truck for this collaboration which will include the art of Jimmy Chiale swirled between the carbon weaves!

GFT brought LL some of his personally poured bushings which were in high demand at the swap. Longboard Living at 74 Oxford will be the official Toronto supplier of GFT bushings, spacers, trucks and other goods he decides to infect the market with.

The crowd enjoyed the wood-burned Bustin Boards Complex which was created by Champstiles Wood Burning through a Longboard Living collaboration.

Alongside Longboard Living was Mike Bozinovski from BOZ Boards and Kevin LeFrank from Ambitious Longboards who's decks will soon be carried at 74 Oxford. Kevin has a line of Freeride "W" concave and Downhill drop decks which will launch at a product release party on April 10th at 2pm.

Jimmy Chiale attended the show for some live board painting and took orders for custom painted boards.

Thanks to Roarockit for hosting this years Swap Meet and everyone else who was involved.
